The Gaping Hole

I know a man who after moving into a house attempted to fix a kitchen drawer. He carefully put the drawer together after much work. He was not skilled in the art of carpentry but after some reserve presented the drawer to his wife.

The wife said in a ridiculed tone, “Did you let the kids put this together”?

The man walked out of his house, bashed the drawer into many, many pieces. He then presented to his wife.

He never replaced the drawer. He would walk by it daily. The gaping hole in the cabinet reminded him of the insult and his failure.

The man confided that he held on to the hurt long after the incident and would often revisit the past when he saw the hole. His wife had no idea why he would grow distant at times for no apparent reason.

The man has since moved on from that house and the hurt and has since found healing in forgiveness through Jesus.

Jesus is the master carpenter who repairs relationships and fills the holes in our hearts.

Go and have that hole fixed.

Candle Power

My wife loves candles. She collects them and displays them around the house. I have to admit I like them also.
A candle can change the room. The light from well-placed candles on a dark night will warm the room and the persons in it.
I didn’t know this before but we have candles that are just for show. Never to be lit. Oh, they are really beautiful. The candles are, what I like to call, “show candles”. How sad is it for a candle, designed to be a thing of light, never to be lit?
I can think of some Christians that are like the “show candle”. They are nice looking, do the right things but are never on fire, never burning for Christ.
How can we become lights to the world, if we never come down from the shelf?
Stop being “show candles”, be a light and lead someone from the darkness.

Lightning Rod

Electricity is all around us. Besides the things that we rely on, cell phones, toasters, blow dryers etc., our bodies couldn’t function without it.
The human heart, muscles and brain waves are all electric. Electric impulses course through our bodies giving commands such as “type on the key board” or “Kiss your wife”.
Dust particles in clouds rub together producing lightning, which is hotter than the surface of the sun. Electricity is around us, all the time, invisible but there.
We tap into electric power by plugging into an outlet, rubbing our feet on carpet for static electricity, often to shock a loved one, or flying a kite with a key attached into a thunder storm.
GOD’s power is even more intense, more awesome than mere electricity. By prayer we tap into the divine power of GOD. We can be the lightning rods affecting those around us, changing lives by HIS glory.
It’s kneel and accept the awesome power of GOD, working for his glory and his glory alone.

Monsters at the Door

How many monsters are at my door? We all have monsters that are waiting to drag us down, wound us to make us ineffective. How many monsters have I allowed into my house by in attentive or unknowing?
The monsters I speak of are worldly things on the face of it innocent sounding things. T.V., video games, music, books, computers. Many of these things are tools and sometimes are good. I was watching an old Star Wars movie on T.V. with my seven year old daughter. A commercial came on and it featured two women kissing, I don't remember what they were selling (well lets be honest we know what they were selling) but I allowed it to enter my house. My daughter saw it, I saw it and because my shield was down I allowed the monster in.
Monsters are out there trying to cripple and maim the next generation and the next.
Fathers watch out for monsters, protect your family.
